A few days ago, the first annual Japan Quiz Competition was held in Tokyo. Designed for students currently studying at a Japanese language institution, the competition offered the opportunity to win a scholarship while deepening one?s understanding of Japanese culture. Our school selected two students to participate: Mr. He Lu and Ms. Meng Ya Ting.
The competition took place over two days, with a rehearsal on the first day. The students were separated into groups based on their birth months, introduced themselves, and learned more about each other while working together. The second day was finally the big event, and the hall was charged with energy since the first place team would win a 500,000 yen scholarship. The competition began with a written test covering a wide range of topics such as Japanese history, athletes, and anime. Unfortunately our team did not pass this preliminary round, but talked with us about their experience while showing us their pictures. Mr. He Lu said that he was disappointed that they didn?t make it past the first round. Although the quiz was difficult, it was exciting. Ms. Meng Ya Ting commented that the quiz was a good motivator. The other participants were so good that it made her want to study harder, and not just Japanese language, but cultural topics as well. Ultimately, it was a great experience and she made some good friends. As our students have shown, challenging yourself is always a significant experience. No matter the outcome, you still learn many things just by trying. |
