School Diary

Daily meals can be difficult occasions for students in a foreign culture. In our school, many students choose to eat their lunch in the classrooms, but the food is the same almost every day. For example, there are apples sent from China, fast-food burgers and fries, and onigiri(rice ball)lunch sets from a nearby supermarket. It seems that everyone prefers the convenience of purchasing their lunch. Some students claim that although they want to make their own lunch, they are too busy with their part time jobs. They say that it is too troublesome and time-consuming to make a lunch, and there are always discounted sushi and yakisoba in supermarkets and convenience stores.

Accompanying the food is almost always a one litre beverage carton. It seems like a lot to drink for only one person, but it’s hard to resist when the price is so cheap at only 89 yen. However, behind the school there is also a vending machine that sells drinks at 100 yen, so many students buy from there as well.

When it comes to meals, students tend to stick to the cheapest food that they can get, but once they graduate, their habits should change. Saving money is good, but don’t forget about balanced nutrition.
