The 8th Annual Saitama City Japanese Speech Contest for Foreign Residents took place on January 24th in Kita Urawa. This year?s event brought together eleven presenters from a wide range of ages and countries to introduce their opinions on the theme of ?Wasteful.?
Our school sent a student who has been featured in this diary previously, a Mongolian student in class J3A named Mr. Tserenpuntsag. This time, the result was?
Outstanding! He won the Saitama City Council Chairman Award!!
Mr. Tserenpuntsag
started by talking about the waste created at his newspaper delivery job, and then moved into discussing all the paper used in his classes. He compelled everyone to reflect on all the unnecessary photocopies that are created, and our school will certainly be looking into changing that.
Below are Mr. Tserenpuntsag?s comments on the competition:
?Since this was my third speech competition, I was able to relax and give a good performance. Although I placed second, I?m happy with the outcome, and all the praise and congratulations has helped improve my confidence. The after-party was particularly interesting given the wide range of people there, from junior high students to Japanese teachers. I spent a bit of time talking with someone who works in Mongolian relations, so it was a beneficial experience.?
So far Mr. Tserenpuntsag has attended three speech competitions, but unfortunately few other students have shown interest. These are valuable experiences for students, so we are trying to encourage everyone to participate. We will do everything we can to help you prepare.
Congratulations again, Mr. Tserenpuntsag!
